How to tie a bjj belt:

  1. Make sure it’s equal,

  2. Close your Gi on your stomach,

  3. Pull through,

  4. Make sure the sides are equal,

  5. Right left over tuck under,

  6. Both pull till you’re comfortable,

  7. Left down right over and goes through,

  8. Pull it, tight.

Tying your BJJ belt correctly is important for both functionality and tradition. While some schools may have slight variations, here’s another common method used by many practitioners:

  1. Fold & Center:

    • Fold your belt in half so that the ends are even.

    • Place the midpoint of the belt around your waist (around your navel) so that both ends hang equally on each side.

  2. Bring the Ends Forward:

    • With the belt centered, pull both ends to the front. This ensures the knot will be centered on your abdomen.

  3. Tie the First Knot:

    • Cross the right end over the left end, then pull it under and through to form a simple knot.

    • Pull both ends tight so the belt is snug around your waist.

  4. Secure with a Square Knot:

    • To ensure it stays secure during training, tie a square (reef) knot. Start by taking one end, crossing it over the other, then tying it as you would when tying your shoelaces.

    • For extra security, you can double knot by repeating the process.

  5. Tidy Up:

    • Ensure the knot is centered and the ends hang evenly.

    • Optionally, tuck any loose ends into the belt for a neat appearance.

Here are two different methods for you to review! Thank you.
