MMA for Kids | CTA Phoenix Arizona

We have added MMA for Kids in our school. We have had a Kids’ BJJ program and have realized parents wanted to teach their kids Karate, Muay Thai, and Boxing, especially for self-defense. And to combat bullying. We will teach each of these styles at our Phoenix Martial Arts Academy.
Learn Karate, Muay Thai, and Boxing!

MMA for Kids

A blackbelt is a whitebelt that never quit!

The people that are teaching Jiu Jitsu should be good people, you shouldn’t look for th best but someone who has a good heart that will teach you not just Jiu-Jitsu but will help you with life.

How old do my kids have to be to join?

Our Tiny Tigers program is for kids 4-6.  The limitation is more around coordination.  Contact us if you have any questions about whether your kids are ready to train.  We're always here to talk and answer your questions.

  • What is needed for my kids’ first day of class?

At the top of this page, we have a video of what to expect.  You will need a mouthpiece, good hygiene (clipped nails and clean), a Gi with Belt, and will need to sign a waiver before starting.

  • Is BJJ or Karate better for my kid?

Mike Martin is a black belt in Karate before BJJ.  Many kids train in Karate, but if you want to be able to protect yourself on the ground, Karate will be of no use.  We used to have Karate classes but feel BJJ is better for self-defense and self-discipline, and it takes significantly more effort to get to Black Belt.

  • How will my kid deal with a bully?

Bullies will exist forever and are impossible to avoid.  As it’s necessary to protect yourself, there is nothing more effective than having a ground game.  Even though Join Submissions and Chokes seem scary, there are ways to smash your attacker and keep them subdued until a grown-up breaks the fight.

  • Will my kid learn discipline?

Kids are used to hearing their parent’s advice and tuning them out.  The coaches are close with the parents, and they enforce self-discipline.  Kids are more open to advice from their coaches and peers. This is simply a fact.  We love working with the kids, and if you look at our reviews, you will see how our parents feel about our Kids Jiu Jitsu and Tiny Tigers program.

  • What is Kids Jiu Jitsu?

The Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program is for children 6-13 years old.  This program is more technical and intense than the Tiny Tigers program (4-6).  Kids MUST burn their energy to feel balanced.  Here, we will work your kids on the mats, teach self-defense, and get into shape.  What kids learn can stick with them throughout life!

  • Is Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu dangerous?

Kids’ Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is not dangerous.  During striking, your kids can take more damage than you think.  Fortunately, in grappling, we TAP OUT.  If you are ever in danger of being submitted by choke or join submission, TAPPING is a must to let your opponent know you are done.  Unlike some schools, we DO NOT encourage adults or kids to try to work through a submission.

  • My kids in not doing well in school. Will this help?

Some kids have way too much energy, making it hard for them to focus.  We truly believe that draining the kids of their excess energy will make them more balanced, relatively speaking.  Pent-up frustration can also be worked out, and our students have had great results in becoming better people/students.  Kids CAN'T compete with bad grades!  So we do not accept bad habits at Strong Heart Academy.  Let's work on developing your kid as a person together.
